With our bus passes purchased, we packed our backpacks and got on a bus headed for Kinsale. I had originally decided to go to Kilkenny, then Cobh and finally Kinsale became the final choice.

It was about an hours drive to the small harbor town of Kinsale.

Kinsale Harbor

Upon arrival, my sister and I immediately set off to explore this small town. Kinsale is rather small but still beautiful and interesting. We wandered through the streets and took in as much as we could.

Colorful Shops
Interesting place down an alley

We went into a few stores and walked down alley ways. Within an hour or so we had explored most of the town. I knew that Charles Fort wasn’t too far away but we would have to walk for more than 30 minutes. Slow but surely we made our way out of town and decided to walk along the Scilly walk. The Scilly walk was very beautiful and there was much to see.

We finally entered Charles Fort! The history oozed from the buildings.

Beautiful View

Our stroll through Charles Fort was marvelous. There is so much to see! We watched as the yachts returned home and the light of the day started fading.

We made our way back to town, choosing to return via the Scilly walk.

Kinsale was a beautiful town filled with many delightful surprises.

Things to remember

  • Many of the shops open later during the day, so be prepared for this.
  • The town is small and many people only go to Kinsale for a day trip.

This was my first time in Kinsale and it was worth the trip.

  1. This looks like a great place to visit. I have it on my list for the trip I want to take to Ireland… some day…
